No need to apologize, Trish. Changes can be hard to deal with, even things like old threads.

We all have times of negativity. You certainly have enough health problems to deal with. Things just kind of accumulate and get us down now and again.

Be blessed!

Will the threads be purged? Like gone forever?

Hi Trish! This is my first year with change over to a new thread. Brrr....it's cold here. We are expecting some snow tomorrow. I'm hoping for a foot of snow.

Hi Edith, Ginny.

Yep, Ginny, the locked threads will be purged. Never to be seen again. You'll notice everybody's post numbers go down. Mine will probably go down quite a bit, but I'm not worried. It happens.

This is the first year that I remember having to start a new thread to go with the year.

With me, it's the hot temperatures that are making me feel so negative. Can't be hormonal, and I had surgery over 10 years ago. Don't have that problem any more.

Yesterday, I just felt that I couldn't take the heat anymore. It was overwhelming and I'd had enough. Was really hot again today, but it's supposed to be a bit cooler tomorrow, before the temperatures go back up again. Some of that snow sounds heavenly to me, Ginny.

Trish we are finally finally in a snow storm. It is wonderful everything looks so great. Would love to send you a sample but refrigeration would be needed and a quick delivery.

Did you know in some hot states they make snow for people to buy as an experience? Like the ice sculptures I guess. Oh now wouldn't that be nice in your heat, an ice restaurant you could go to?

I'm in a "hot" state and we're expecting sleet today. Free of charge even!

Hi Trish, hope you soon get some relief from all the heat you are having right now. Also wondering do the firefighters have the wild fires under control yet?

It's so great to have you all here!

Melissa, there's fires starting up all over the place. So far, they are keeping them all contained. No more really big ones like the first one that killed somebody and destroyed property. Hopefully there won't be any more. With the catastrophic fire alert on for our state though, who knows what could happen.

I had another quiet day today. Managed to catch up on my penpal letters. Did a little more of the cross stitch that I'm making for John. Looking at the colour scheme of threads, they look awful together. Hopefully they'll look a lot better when the cross stitch is all finished.

My mom gave me all her cross stitch supplies. I have lots of Aida cloth, thread, etc. The supplies are in the office. The office needs cleaning and straightening bad. I slept over at my daughter's house last night in her comfy bed (she's at work) and slept so good I missed church this morning. Woke up to Z my youngest banging on the bed. Seems he needs gas in his car and I have the debit card. I asked him how he got in and he said the door was unlocked.

Yikes to the door being open!

I started sorting through my craft things last year. I had a stack of yarn from when I'd gone through a knitting phase a few years ago. Rather than throwing them out, I used the yarn to knit all the scarves to go into schools, sold some, and used the rest as Christmas gifts.

I've not long bought some cross stitch kits in order to make Christmas and birthday presents. I managed to get hold of some patterns too, so I can use them. I've also got some other patterns from when I used to do cross stitch all the time. I'm hoping to use them this year and beyond to make gifts from.

Maybe you could do the same too. You were saying that finances are tight. Seeing as you already have the supplies there, why don't you do some cross stitch and use them for birthday and Christmas gifts? Time consuming, but enjoyable and thrifty.

I think you are right. I used to have lots of craft magazines too. Not sure where I put them. I did sell quite a few of them at a yard sale.

Selling them is good too. Just thought that rather than having materials just sitting around, it would be good to use them somehow. Speaking for myself as well. That's why I made the scarves, and am now doing some cross stitch.

If you don't want to use them, maybe a craft group might be happy to take them off your hands.

Lots of times nursing homes will take craft supplies.

Most of the Christmas gifts I made (2009) were from left over yarn. Had to buy very little.

So what did you make with your yarn?

I think people are learning to sew, knit, crochet, cook at home etc because with the global financial problems, it's much easier, and cheaper to do things ourselves. Some things are more fun doing them ourselves. I wonder how many people are learning how to fix their cars themselves because it's cheaper that way.

I made slippers--and hats. All crochet.

I got sort of crocheted out and took a break. But now I am going to make myself a shawl.

.... I always get bit by the crochet bug in the winter time!

Trish, btw, makes the MOST beautifulest scarves!!!

I've been wanting to make a shawl... I've got several patterns copied to my computer... but I think I may go with the simplest one...

I tried crocheting a sweater... but I really don't like how it turned out and none of my girls will wear it... so I think I'm gonna pull it out and use that yarn for a shawl.... maybe.

I'm soooo indecisive! lol!

I've never done cross-stitch... but I did some embroidery way back when. I thought about picking that art back up and teaching it to my girls. They need a little something creative to keep them busy!

What do you guys suggest I should teach my chicklins? They are ages 13 & 14....

Heya Trish.... Kendra is reading a book called Stories for a Teens Heart (she got it for Christmas from someone very special).... She loves it... She's been telling me about all the stories in it. I'm glad she's reading it because it's made room for some really neat conversations!

Hope you are having a good week!!!

I have several shawl patterns and will just make the easiest one in some soft yarn.

I used to do quite a bit of counted cross stitch but now it is hard to see those little stitches.

When I was a kid I learned crewel work. I loved it. Maybe your chicklins would like it. Or crocheting since scarves are so popular now and a good project to start with.

..... ooo! What's crewel work? I'll have to head over to google....

They tried crocheting last year and didn't have enough patience to make it through to the 'comfortable' stage....

Some ladies at our church are doing a Swedish Weaving class... but purchasing Monks Cloth is kinda pricey!

..... Rach skips off to google.

...... Oh my goodness! It's beautiful! I love the texture!!!

Here's a link so lurkers can see, too.

I'll have to run it by them and see what they think..... they are really artsy fartsy type of girls... I'm hoping to expose them to something new that they'd really have fun with! Thanks for the suggestion!

Crewel is beautiful and fun cause there are so many different stitches you do not get bored doing the same thing over and over.
