I've never opened one but here's a brief overview of the ESV bible.

There's a few article written about the ESV in the Internetmonk site. Try doing a search.

I have it and I'm enjoying it.

My favorite part about the Bible though is the online features you get to use.

In essence it is the Study Bible online, but you can listen to the ESV as well and create your own notes that are saved.

It is big and bulky. I just keep it at home and study it that way, though I primarily do it online. I take a smaller Bible to church with me.

I like the online capability. I have a NIV Life Application that I have been using for awhile. Is the ESV bigger or heavier? I put lots of margin notes in my bible so take to studies with me.

The ESV that I have is the Reformation Study Bible. It's primarily a word-for-word translation weighed against the original Greek, Hebrew, and Aramaic manuscripts (I apologize if you already know that).

At first, it was a little odd reading this translation as I was so accustomed to the NIV, but I like it better.

As far as the margins are concerned, the layout of the one I have has minimal margin space. It's highly likely, though, that other layouts exist.

I believe it is bulkier. It not only has study notes, but a whole slew of articles in the front and the back, plus some very descriptive maps, diagrams and artistic representations of things like Herod's Temple, etc...

It is a very good Study Bible.

It is not wide margin unfortunately, don't know if they plan on coming out with one or not.

That is perhaps why they went with the online feature.

I think I know what I want for Christmas now . This study bible sounds good. I have to admit, without my study bible, I'm a little lost reading and understanding the bible. I have the John MacArthur study bible.

I love the ESV study bible. I have been using the ESV for a few years now and I love the translation. I recommend either the ESV Study Bible from Crossway or the The Reformation Study Bible from Ligonier. I have both, but I favor my ESV Study bible. A great gift from the Lord.

I just got mine! Loving it, espcially the online features and those features imo are extensive! The articles are fabulous and printable!

I've been using the ESV reformation bible as well. It is very good, too.

Our church's preferred translation is the ESV.

Those who have both the ESV Study Bible and the ESV Reformation Bible, did you notice the small update that did in some passages translation wise?

They aren't really significant, just made a little readable.

It actually started before the ESV study bible came out. About a year ago I was listening to John Piper online. He was reading out of the ESV, and I was reading with him out of the ESV Reformation Bible, and I notice some differences in the wording.

I emailed Crossway about it, and they said they did update it, I believe in 2006, but not enough to really call it an update. In a few places they made it a little more readable, but not significant a change to let people really know.

I found that interesting. I have found a couple of places it was updated, just in a minor way, like one word here or there was changed for readablility sake.

I got my ESV Reformation bible at the office, and I'm at home.

I will post one differences tomorrow.
